The winged scarab on Tutankhamun’s breastplate
This beautiful winged scarab depicts the throne name of King Tutankhamun “Nebhebrure”. The central element is the “Khepri” scarab made of lapis lazuli and three strokes of the “plus sign” hieroglyph below it. Between the front legs of the scarab, the disc of the rising sun “Ra” is depicted.
It is made of a transparent red agate stone inlaid with gold, which represents what in nature was a ball of clay and dung containing its eggs.Which the beetle rolls forward. Under the multiple lines, a “hieroglyphic sign,” there is a “neb”-shaped basket inlaid with turquoise.
The wings often added to scarabs represent the god Ra, the god of the rising sun. These wings rotate to form an almost perfect circle, surrounding the royal name and providing it with divine protection.
Khepri is the god of creation, resurrection, and sunshine. The scarab pushes the disk of the sun above the horizon and sits on the sign of Neb (i.e. basket) – which denotes his divine nature
